Juneteenth celebrates the day black slaves in Galveston Texas got the news they were free.

Black slaves in Texas got the news they were free two years after they were freed by President Abraham Lincoln.

Soldiers came to Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. They announced that black slaves were free.

The name Juneteenth is a blend of the words June and nineteenth.
